National Jewish Student Journalism Conference!

Presented by New Voices Magazine and the Jewish Student Press Service and hosted by Avanim, the literary journal of Columbia/Barnard Hillel, the Columbia Current and the NYU Jewish Voice, the conference features workshops and panels on campus Jewish publications, writing on Israel, and more. It will be held at the Kraft Center for Jewish Life in Manhattan, 606 W. 115th St.

Past conferences have featured presentations by Ethan Bronner and Clyde Haberman of The New York Times, Alana Newhouse of Tablet, J.J. Goldberg of The Forward, Susan Weidman Schneider of Lilith, Josh Friedman and Sam Freedman of the Columbia Journalism School, Esther Kaplan and Ari Berman of The Nation, Daniel Sieradski of jewschool.com and the JTA, and Nathan Glazer of Harvard University.

Where is the conference being held?
The conference will be held at the Kraft Center for Jewish Life: Columbia/Barnard Hillel. 606 W. 115th St. New York, NY 10025.

If I’m coming from out of town, where will I stay?
We have great relationships with several youth hostels in New York City who offer comfortable lodging for under $40/night.  Contact us for more information.

Will the food be kosher? 
Yes.  All food served at the conference will be strictly kosher.

How much does the conference cost?
The cost is $40, which includes two breakfasts, two lunches and conference materials.

Is this fee refundable if I decide not to come?
No, sorry. Your payment is non-refundable.

Are there scholarships available?
We have worked hard to make the conference as inexpensive as possible and as such, cannot offer scholarships.  We are happy to help you look for alternate means of funding from local Hillels and Federations.

When is the registration deadline?

You must register by May 12th to secure a place at the conference.
